On Monday, February 19, 2024, Virginia Tech hosted University of Virginia at the Cassell Coliseum.
Virginia Tech just beat Virginia 75-41 in basketball upsetting Virginia with a 20-6 record and having 103 votes from ESPN to be ranked the following week.
This is a huge win for Virginia Tech as it helps them in the ACC tournament that is upcoming in the next couple weeks.
Trent McQuade (12) said, ” Losing to Virginia Tech is upsetting but I think it’s no worries saying that UVA is dominating in the ACC right now. Plus we will bounce back and do good in the ACC tournament where Virginia Tech wont go far.”
Mr. Luckett (History Teacher) commented, “The past lost to Virginia Tech was embarrassing, it is one thing to lose, but a totally different type of losing when it’s by 34.”
With the ACC basketball tournament coming up there are already talks about who will be in the ACC Championship.
Trent McQuade (12) said, “It’s a tough decision but I think that its going to be between Wake Forest and UNC to see who is going to win it all.”
“You always have a dark horse in the ACC that’ll make a run for it, but UNC is definitely the favorite as of right now,” says Mr. Luckett (History Teacher).
The Commonwealth Clash is held between Virginia Tech and UVA , which are the two biggest schools in Virginia.
Trent McQuade (12) states, “I think that UVA is winning because Virginia Tech only beats UVA in football excluding this past game.”
Mr. Luckett (History Teacher) agrees saying, “Currently UVA is ahead of VT by 1/2 a point, but spring sports haven’t started yet.”
