Elevate Dance Co. celebrated victory at Dance Makers Richmond during the weekend of February 14th. Their success at a competition such as this one attests to their teamwork, and dedication throughout the season.
Willow Burr, a senior at Hidden Valley High School, shared her perspective into what drove the team’s achievement. “I think working together as a team and all of our extra practice in the studio really helped us push harder,” she said. Despite facing challenges like illnesses within the team, their commitment to each other inspired them to push through. “We worked hard, especially for the people who couldn’t be there”, (Willow, 12).
The announcement of their win was both exciting and unexpected. “I was just really excited,” Willow recalled. “We weren’t expecting it, and it was really cool”. Beyond the victory, the experience left a lasting impact on the dancers growth, as both artists and individuals.
Kate Funderburke reflected on how being part of the team and participating in events like Dance Makers has shaped her journey. “Throughout my time on the team, it has really just helped me grow as both a person and a dancer. The girls on the team push me to be my best self every day. I’m more determined, more motivated—it’s just helped me a lot”, (Kate, 11).
