In the early months of January and February of 2025, Roanoke County was met with several snow days. Roanoke County Public Schools were given 8 banked snow days. In reality, they had 11 which will lead to them making up the 3 extra snow days on February 26th, March 14th, and April 17th due to recent snow storms.
” I liked the extra days we got to stay home for the snow, but I don’t think they should have taken away half days and a teacher work day since we haven’t had snow in 2 years,” said Bryce Woodson(10). Many people are unhappy with the county decisions, but its better than having extra days added along to the school year. ” I think its better than having extra days added into summer,” explained Carter Yost(10) on the situation.
When asked about this situation Bryce Woodson said, “I think they shouldn’t have used some of the snow days because there was no ice or snow on the roads and I was able to do every thing normally.” Carter Yost said, ” I agree there was at least 3 days where the roads were fine or they called it because it was just colder.”
“All the extra snow days after winter break and everything messed up my sleep schedule because I became so used to the fact that we could sleep in and go to bed later than usual,” explained Carter Yost. “The snow days that the county applied messed up my routine on days I think we should’ve gone to school,” says Bryce Woodson.
Overall the Snow days have changed the school year a little bit with some pros and cons on where the situation could’ve been worse.
