On December 20th through the 21st, the Hidden Valley Titans hosted their second annual Titan Basketball Invitational (TBI), hosted in Hidden Valleys auxiliary gym and main gym, hoping for a second tournament win in a row.
The Titan Basketball Invitational invited three teams, Lord Botetourt, Rockbridge County, and Franklin County all to compete in the two-day tournament. Both JV and Varsity competed in this tournament, with Junior Varsity competing in the semifinal in the Aux gym, and Varsity in the main gym.
The boys played their first game at 7pm on December 20th against Franklin County, coming out with a win of 57 to 38. During that game Hidden Valley held Franklin County to zero points in the first quarter. Hidden Valley’s Coach Hutchins said, “I have never had a game where we held a team to zero points during the first quarter.”
After Friday night games, both Junior Varsity and Varsity boys advanced to the championship game. Junior Varsity played Lord Botetourt at 3:30 and sadly came just short of a win. After the Junior Varsity game, Varsity played at 6:30, also against Lord Botetourt. Hidden Valley came out on top with a win 56 to 48, winning the Titan Basketball Invitational for the second year in the row.
The leading scorers during the championship game were Riley Phillips (12) with 14 points, following his lead, Wynn Womeldorf (11) with 12 points. From all of us here at the Titan Times, we are wishing the Titans basketball teams good luck in the rest of their season and hoping for a win again in next year’s Titan Basketball Invitational.
