While searching for the best Christmas movies to watch on a cold December day, you may find that this article has just the answer for you. Many people spend the holiday season spending time with family, searching for the perfect gifts for loved ones, and most importantly, enjoying Christmas movies.
After interviewing a few students at Hidden Valley High School, it seems that the most common answers for our burning question, “What’s your favorite Christmas movie?” were Elf and Love Actually.
Elf is a story about a baby, Buddy, who was delivered to the North Pole. Buddy grows up alongside Santa’s elves but eventually realizes he isn’t an elf like them. He travels to New York City in search of his biological family. This film was released in 2003 and has since grossed 220 million dollars worldwide.
“I’d say Elf is my favorite because it’s the one I grew up on and it has a very interesting premise. The ending was very sweet and wholesome and something I could really connect with,” states Garry Norris Jr. (11). Norris recalls seeing this for the first time at eight years old when it came on TV. He has made a point of watching it at least once every Christmas since.
While Elf is a very highly rated Christmas film among many people, especially youth, in the United States and is evident to be Norris’ preference, another Christmas favorite is Love Actually.
Love Actually is a combination of eight love lives with different dynamics and complexities experiencing the chaos of Christmas. Released in 2003, this movie has grossed over 240 million dollars.
“I’ve watched Love Actually about 4 times this December. It is one of those movies that I can watch multiple times during the Christmas season and never get tired of. It is so memorable and one I can watch with my family that we can all enjoy,” Ginger Barbour (10). Barbour loves this movie because of its engaging plot and heart-warming ending. Something she believes to be crucial for a good Christmas movie.
So, whether you are in search of your next holiday watch, or just simply scrolling through the Titan Times, give these festive films a try. Afterall, the code of elves declares every day should be treated like Christmas, full of magic, wonder, and joy.
