With the Christmas season rapidly approaching, people around the world who enjoy festive music are starting to prepare their annual Christmas playlists. Here are my top eight favorite Christmas songs:
- Last Christmas by Wham!
This song incorporates that recognizable 80’s sound and is known as a childhood favorite for many. Tessa Furcron (10) says, “I really like the beat to this song it is not like any other Christmas song.” This song doesn’t have the typical lively Christmas vibe, but it is a lovesick ballad that some may relate to during the holiday season.
- Drummer Boy by Justin Bieber ft. Busta Rhymes
Pop sensation Justin Bieber took a modernized twist on the classic Christmas song Little Drummer Boy. This song has a catchy beat and is a song that stays stuck in your head all day. It is fun and even includes a clever lyrical rap verse in the song.
- All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey
This song is a fan favorite for many and Christmas time staple. “I think that this is definitely the most popular Christmas song. It is super catchy,” says Ann Elise Kadela (12). This song is known for its upbeat sound, catchy melody, and powerful vocals that can be recognized anywhere. It has elements of R&B, pop, and gospel.
- Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do by Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter is one of the world’s rising stars. Her original Christmas album Fruitcake demonstrates her amazing musical abilities. Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do radiates cozy Christmas vibes that also demonstrate what it is like to be in love during the holidays. This Christmas song is one of my personal favorites that you will catch yourself singing all day long.
- Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon, Plastic Ono Band, and Yoko Ono
This song is a Christmas classic released in 1971. It doesn’t have the normal Christmas song sound, but has a more sorrowful and reflective sound. It teaches good messages of not being materialistic during Christmas time while reflecting on the past year.
- Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande
This song radiates a fun and playful vibe that draws listeners in. It has a good combination of the fun holiday vibe, but talks about the possibility of heartbreak during the holiday season. This song is very popular and has reached one billion streams on Spotify.
- Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney incorporates unique and repetitive sounds in this song, which is part of what makes this song so good. This song has received criticism for being cheesy and cliché, but I believe that is what makes this song radiate positive Christmas vibes.
- It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Michael Bublé
This song is a classic Christmas carol that captures the visual cues of Christmas. It has a lively, soothing melody with a catchy tune. This songs helps to build the anticipation and excitement of Christmas.
