Every year in Roanoke County, Explore Park hosts Illuminights, a fun ½ mile long Christmas light experience for all ages to enjoy.
Not only does this experience offer bright lights and holiday sights, but there is also so much to enjoy in your time of being there. Along the walk, there are many stops and opportunities for pictures to be taken and rest. “My favorite part is seeing the look on my daughter’s face when she sees all of the lights,” stated HV Dean of Students Maggie Coffey.
Not only is there the walk through, but there are also many other activities. At the end of the walk, you will find a large Christmas tree along with hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting for smores around a fire, an open brewery and many food vendors. “I would probably say that my favorite part of this event was all of the ornaments on the trees, especially the main Christmas tree,” stated Spencer Thacker (12).
There are many things to know before you go to this event. Explore Park website reminds you that all tickets are non-refundable and they must be purchased in advance. You can purchase tickets on their website, https://www.roanokecountyparks.com/545/Illuminights. Additionally, they will remind you to stay on the trail when walking, due to safety concerns.
Spencer Thacker said, “I went this year with a couple of people and I enjoyed the holiday experience.”
