Julia Pearce (11), Julia Lampkin (11), and Meribel Pan (12) all performed as a part of the South-Central Regional Orchestra, an orchestra in Virginia that acknowledges band students for their musical abilities and classroom work. The orchestra is made up of the southern regions of Virginia.
Meribel Pan stated, “This is my proudest moment in my orchestral career.” She has been playing violin for about 12 years and has been in orchestra for all four years of high school. Meribel also said she has always loved playing the violin. Playing an instrument is a important part of her life and brings her a lot of joy.
Julia Lampkin has been playing violin since she was around six years old. She added, “My favorite memory from playing violin is my middle school years.” Julia has always loved music and has dedicated a lot of her time to improving her skills, as well as the other girls. Julia recalls that she grew up in an area with a tight group of friends who were all excited to join the orchestra. “We had a very prestige orchestra that I looked forward to joining, and it was super fun.”
These girls spend countless hours practicing and perfecting their pieces, along with balancing school and other extracurricular activities. However, their determination and love for music has kept them motivated and their hard work paid off. Great job Julia Pearce, Meribel Pan, and Julia Lampkin on your amazing opportunity and making HVHS proud!
