Hidden Valley High School’s students and staff celebrated the importance of Red Ribbon week by saying no to drugs and dressing up for the spirit days from October 28th-November 1st. Monday’s spirit day was for students to dress up in pajamas. On Tuesday, each grade level had a designated color to dress up in. Wednesday everyone said no to drugs by wearing the color red. Thursday was Halloween, so the spirit day was for students to wear their Halloween costumes. Finally on Friday, the spirit day was for students to dress as their childhood selves.
Red Ribbon week is something that Hidden Valley celebrates each year. Red Ribbon week is a chance for everyone to have fun by participating in the spirit weeks and advocate for saying no to drugs. “Red Ribbon week is important to acknowledge and raise awareness for and I like seeing all the participation in the school during spirit week and watching students say no to drugs,” Mrs. Waggoner said. Red Ribbon week means something different to everyone, and when asked what Red Ribbon week meant to Mr. Whitlow he said, “Red ribbon week is important because it is a chance to advocate the use of drugs and seeing all the participation for the students this week was amazing.”
The most participated spirit day for the week was on Thursday when students and staff dressed in their Halloween costumes. The spirit week wasn’t only for students to participate in, but the staff and faculty as well. While Hidden Valley celebrates this important week in October every year, it still is astonishing to see how many students advocate for saying no to drugs by participating in the spirit days.
