Last weekend, HVHS’s Marching Band attended the Celtic Classic competition at Glenvar Highschool. This competition is a way for marching bands in the area to assess their playing, percussion, marching, color guard, and visual effects. These factors were also the basis for grading. Hidden Valley High School garnered fifth place.
Fifth place is still an impressive feat, as there were over twenty bands present at the event. These bands included Cave Spring, Floyd County, William Byrd, Bassett County, Salem, Patrick Henry, Northside, and more. Out of these performers, Basset County emerged victorious.
While Hidden Valley did not achieve victory, they did score greatly in something else. One member of the Mighty Titan Marching Band, Lucas Murariu (9), says, “Hidden Valley scored an 80.1, but we actually got first for percussion in our division.” So, it seems that percussion ‘played’ a part in the band’s admirable performance.
As the Competition approached, the band had to prepare alongside other obligations. “We worked on our skills throughout the year.” Murariu noted. Because their performance at the Celtic Classic aligned the band’s halftime show, they have been learning the routine since the Summer. Although The Mighty Titans did not win, we congratulate them on their hard work and excellent representation of our school!
