The Hidden Valley High School students and teachers have a chance to show their school spirit on the week of October 7th-11th. This week’s themes consist of Frat vs. Prep, White Lies & Togas for Seniors, Country vs. Country Club, Decade Day, and Extreme Blue & Gold. The reason for this spirit week is it is the week leading up to the Homecoming dance.
Monday’s theme is frat vs. prep. Students will dress up as a frat boy or a preppy college student.
Tuesday’s theme is white lies and seniors wear togas. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors can wear a white shirt with a “little white lie” written on it. Seniors wear togas. “I’m most excited for white lies,” says Mrs. Newburn (Staff).
Wednesday’s theme is country vs. country club. This means that students can either wear old timey western attire or dress like a stereotypical country club member.
Thursday’s theme is decades day. Freshmen wear 70’s attire, sophomores wear 80’s attire, juniors wear 90’s attire, and seniors dress up like senior citizens.
Friday’s theme is extreme blue and gold, our school colors. Underclassmen wear blue and upperclassmen wear gold. There is a competitive aspect to this theme that pits the underclassmen’s spirit against the upperclassmen’s spirit. “Seniors are going for their spirit trophy three peat, but I feel like the freshmen are the underdogs here,” said Mrs. Newburn (Staff) after being asked which class showed the most school spirit. “I’m most excited for extreme blue and gold because I get to paint my face and hair,” says Brody Garrett (11).
Brody Garrett (11) thinks spirit weeks are important, because they give students something else to be excited for throughout the week, rather than just focusing on work. “It gives us something fun to do to keep us interested and involved.”
With these themes throughout the week and the game on Friday, the students are getting excited in preparation for the homecoming dance.
