The freshman at Hidden Valley come in every year with the same worries and stress. High school is a new beginning and a step towards finding themselves. This significant transition from middle school to high school is filled with numerous opportunities and extracurriculars to find the right fit just for you and explore diverse interests. Writing about the new freshman life can help share experiences or stories that they were scared of to show it’s not as bad as you think.
Most freshman come into high school thinking they are going to have to overcome these difficult challenges. Mia Jolly (9) stated “I haven’t had any challenges, except for finding my classes, but I figured it out within the first week.” This helps show that there aren’t any big or major changes and challenges you need to worry about. Mia Jolly even admitted that she didn’t have any fears coming to high school, she was just excited for meeting new friends and playing sports with them. Meeting friends and trying out new clubs can seem intimidating, but everyone is in the same place; you’re all exploring together. Joining clubs and starting conversations with people are great ways to find friends with the same interests.
The shift from middle school to high school often involves a more self-driven approach. You must learn new study habits for the workload and develop time management skills. It becomes difficult to balance your academics with your extra curriculars, so when asked, Nate Baker (9) said, “I go straight home and do my homework so it doesn’t pile up.” This can help you stay productive and turn assignments in on time. While there may be small challenges with the work load, remember that everyone is going through the same thing.
Transitioning into high school may seem intimidating at first, but it gets easier. It’s time to try new experiences and opportunities for personal growth. You’ll be able to meet new friends and learn valuable lessons that can help you in and out of school. With an open mind and a positive attitude, high school can be an exciting experience and some of the best years of your life.
