The importance of clubs in school is something that should not be overlooked. Joining clubs in school creates a great sense of community, and Mrs. Preston’s Cancer Awareness team is creating an amazing and positive platform for those who support her cause.
Mrs. Preston was not the founder of the Cancer Awareness Team, as the torch was passed to her by teachers in the past. Two previous teachers, both in which had breast cancer, created the club to connect with students and other teachers to inform them on ways to avoid contracting cancer. Mrs. Preston lost her mother to cancer, and this motivated her to join the club and take it to the next level.
As Mrs. Preston informed us about the effects of cancer within her own life, her advice to us to avoid getting cancer was to wear sunscreen and get regular exams. These small acts can go a long way, as you can always have a sense of certainty if these things are checked often.
When asking Mrs. Preston about the results of the club, she has multiple examples of the club creating positive impacts. In the past when a student was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer, Mrs. Preston organized a fundraiser and parade for the students outside of their house. This act of kindness is the reason this club was created, to spread awareness and bring happiness. Preston told us her goal going forward with the club is to simply provide the correct information in terms of cancer. A lot of people do not know the results or how it can affect one’s life unless they are personally
