Family, Career and Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA), run by Kathy Jacoby and Claire Gregory, is currently a popular and long running club at Hidden Valley High School. Jacoby and Gregory have run FCCLA together since 2019. FCCLA is a student driven organization for Family and Consumer Science students. In this club, FCCLA members focus on many teamwork activities, community service projects, and in and out of state competitions.
“Ms. Jacoby is amazing, and the trips have been really fun,” says Maya Ghobrial, former FCCLA President. She was heavily involved in competitions last year and states that all competitions were held as a team, nothing individual.
Last year, Hidden Valley High School’s FCCLA qualified for nationals and a Hidden Valley’s member placed ninth in the country. This club usually meets once a month, but when they are working on a project they meet more. There is also a $30 membership fee for this organization.
Mrs. Gregory talked a bit on why you should join, “It is a small group and wit’s a small chapter, so you have a better chance of finding a leadership position and having a bigger impact.” This year, FCCLA will be doing a big community service project of packing foster care emergency kits. They usually take part in one service project per year.
To wrap it all up, FCCLA at Hidden Valley Highschool sounds like a great organization to join for leadership opportunities, community service hours, and teamwork activities. If you are interested in growing your knowledge in family career and community, join FCCLA!
