The Leo Club here at Hidden Valley is a new statewide club where all members will be given many opportunities for community service and ways to help others. This club started towards the end of last school year, making it a new club. Matthew Luviano (11) introduced the idea to this club and is now the President. This club has many goals for this next school year and they are working to accomplish as many as possible!
The Vice President, Kate Funderburke (11) says, “Matthew came to me with this idea of a club that he has seen in other schools that he wanted to bring to Hidden Valley.” The Leo Club was started to help the community and incorporate community service with volunteers. Joining the Leo Club is quite easy, there is no fee and no required meetings. All you must do is get volunteer hours and opportunities. Kate is who keeps track of everyone’s volunteer hours. She also puts all the members in contact with different volunteer openings.
The Leo Club has many things they are looking to accomplish this school year. Matthew says, “My main goal is to help out Fallen Park Elementary School. There is around 1 in 3 kids homeless there.” He is looking to get supplies and help the school in many other ways this year. His other goal for the club is to get five hundred volunteer hours this year. Kate said her goal was to have a lot of members in the club and have it grow a lot. The overall goal for the Leo Club this year is to help as many people as possible with community service.
The Leo Club’s desire to help others and their worth ethic is so inspiring and will do such important things this school year. This club is an effective way to find opportunities to help others and complete community service hours and it also looks great on college resumes. To wrap it all up, the Leo Club is a new club here at Hidden Valley that is looking to expand and soar this school year!
