This school year, Hidden Valley is happy to welcome a new teacher, Mr. Overstreet. He will be contributing to the special education program here at Hidden Valley High School. Although this is Overstreet’s first year teaching in a high school, he previously taught at an elementary school for 15 years, Glenvar Middle School for 2 years, and worked inside of other classrooms throughout the valley.
According to Ms. Downey, the head of the special education department, “he will provide new opportunities for students who have graduated but are still working on certain skills for future employment.” Upon interviewing Mr. Overstreet, we learned that teaching is actually his second career, and he began with an occupation in restaurant management. He talked about his path to special education, saying, “I did that [speaking of his job in restaurant managing] for about 10 years and then in my mid 30s decided I couldn’t do that anymore and switched to teaching.”
We are so glad to invite Mr. Overstreet onto our campus, and this excitement has been displayed by faculty and staff here at HVHS. Both Ms. Downey and Mr. Overstreet have talked about his seamless transition into the school and what a big role he is already playing. At the end of an interview, he commented, “I have gotten a lot of support already, everyone has been so kind and has been trying to come meet and encourage me.” If you see Mr. Overstreet in the halls, be sure to say hello to this new face!
