Every year a new set of seniors graduate into an unknown territory of new responsibilities and unknowns. Sometimes it is good to look back at how far we have come from learning how to add and subtract in elementary school to math with letters in it. Let us reflect on one special graduating senior this year, Dee Shouse.
Shouse will be attending Radford in the Fall and majoring in nursing. She says that what she will miss most about Hidden Valley High School is the environment. She mentions how impactful two staff members at Hidden Valley High School have been: Nurse Shores and Mr. Harris. Shouse says, Nurse Shores has always created an environment for me to be open and talk about anything, and Mr. Harris encouraged the best out of everyone, seeing each student’s individual strengths.”
Shouse recalls that two of her favorite memories of Hidden Valley High School were when a student brought a cutout of Harry Styles to homecoming and danced with it her sophomore year and, when Mr. Jablonski rode a hoverboard around the school her junior year. She has also participated in a few extra curricula activities throughout her years at Hidden Valley, such as prevention club, DECA, theater, and track.
“You can bring yourself up, no matter what you have been through,” Shouse says to any younger students attending Hidden Valley Highschool.
While it is good to reflect on all the good that has happened throughout high school, no one is perfect. What Shouse regrets most about her time as a high schooler is not always trying as hard as possible with her schoolwork and her relationships with her peers. Shouse has been through a lot, but she never let it stop her from coming out of the lows with positive life lessons and individual strength and growth.
“It is never too late to turn your life around, even when it feels like you are at your lowest.” -Dee Shouse
