The gift-giving season is coming up with Christmas, Hanukkah, and more holidays; but what if you don’t know what to get for the special people in your life? We got some insight from students of Hidden Valley High School on their favorite ideas of gifts to give and receive. From classics to outside-of-the-box ideas, our peers share their thoughts for the holiday season.
Let’s start off with the small things: stocking stuffers. Candy is a classic stocking stuffer that you can’t go wrong with, as long as the person likes sweets. If they don’t like sweets, you can try a more alternative route for small snacks, like small chip bags or even Slim-Jims. You could also fit in some more practical things like socks, chap-stick, or a small pack of pens or markers. Lyn Devlin (11) said that “It depends who you’re getting it for, but candy or skin care items” can be good for stocking stuffers.
Gift cards and cash can be great for when you’re not sure what someone wants. Brady McHenry (11) suggest that a present you can’t go wrong with is “a gift card,” and Matthew Luviano (10) recommended “cold, hard money.” Luviano added “I hope to get some cold, hard cash because I can do whatever I want with it and not have something that I didn’t want.” Similarly, Lyn said “I never really know what I want, so I guess [I want] money”
Students also shared some things they hope to get and give this winter. While Lyn Devlin appreciates money, they also think that gifts are most meaningful when someone thinks of you, saying that “You could literally give me a rock and say ‘I saw this and thought of you’ and I would be like ‘Thank you so much.’” They are planning on making some paintings this year to give as presents to family. “I’ve got a lot of art to do.” Christian Farley (11), shared that this year he hopes he gets “Definitely a car, it’s about time.” Lastly, Brady McHenry said that he hopes to get “Anything that makes me happy, like Legos.”
