Fall has approached us all and it is time to decide which coffee shop will stand tall. Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are two of the largest coffee shop competitors nationwide. When you need a pick me up, which brew is best for you?
Starbucks first started out on the west coast, but their franchise has spread like wildfire. Starbucks is known for their high-quality products that entail a higher price. Contrasting to Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts originally opened shops on the east coast and is better known for their more affordable prices.
Pumpkin Spice Lattes have had an everlasting effect on society and changed the way the public does Fall, but when it comes down to it, who does the PSL better? October 10, 2023 marks Starbucks’s 20-year Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) anniversary, whereas Dunkin’ Donuts has been selling these lattes for just over 10 years. Although Starbucks has twice as much experience, their prices seem to feel twice as much as Dunkin’. A small Pumpkin Spice Latte from Dunkin’ Donuts will cost an average of $3.99 whereas a Starbucks tall (small) is around $5.95. Dunkin’ Donuts is keen on emphasizing affordability and conveniency while Starbucks strives to portray a superior image of flavor and customization.
Starbucks has continuously built their “premium” brand. They are known for their dependable taste. On the other hand, Dunkin’ Donuts can be inconsistent with their taste. Susie Metz (9) believes, “Dunkin’ Donuts is just okay at best. Sometimes you get a good drink and sometimes you don’t, but Starbucks is always good.”
The Fall menu lineup at Starbucks consists of five drinks and three food items. Dunkin’ Donuts released two drinks and three food items. Starbucks has more of a variety and customizable options. However, many students agree that Dunkin’ Donuts gives you much more value for your money. Ella Westerhold (9) comments, “Today I got a drink and a sandwich from Starbucks, and it was over 15 dollars. Even though Starbucks is expensive, it’s a price I am willing to pay.”
In conclusion, many can agree that Starbucks has superior quality and flavor, but Dunkin’ Donuts is more bang for your buck. If you want a tasteful experience, Starbucks is for you. If you want a cheap, quick pick me up, Dunkin’ Donuts is your guy.
