The flag corps for the 2023-2024 school year are back bigger and better than ever before and ready for all their performances during Hidden Valley High School’s football games. To prepare for the flag corps season at Hidden Valley, the flag corps team has open gyms in the spring of the previous school year so students can learn about the team and what they do.
In the summer a few weeks before the first day of school, the team joins the marching band at band camp to prepare for the upcoming season in the fall. At band camp they learn their routines and practice their routines with the band. At home games the band and the flag corps team perform together during the halftime show.
“Band camp is where you learn most of your set for the show and you get to dorm with your friends, and it was such a great experience that impacted my life I’ll never forget it.” Annabelle Highberger (11).
Annabelle felt like there were many people that she connected with and now feels like she has friends that share her same interest about flag corps. They all work together as a team to make sure that the routines go exactly as they practiced, and they get everything right with the band.
“You get to preform with the band at halftime shows and at away games you do dances in the stands and it’s super fun.” Annabelle Highberger (11).
The flag corps have very colorful uniforms that match the school colors and many props to perform at the games. They come up with unique and up lifting routines to help get the students in the school spirit during the football games and when they are not preforming during the halftime show the flag corps and the marching band do little routines in the stands during the game to keep up the school spirit.
“The costumes are very colorful and bright, and I love wearing them.” Alliyah Munzo (11).
The team has come close together in the past few months and are looking forward to preforming during home games and going to away games to support the football team.
