Hidden Valley is excited to welcome a new English teacher, Hayley Keys!
Miss. Keys is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to Roanoke in August. Upon arriving, she had several interviews with different school districts prior to deciding to teach at Hidden Valley. “I really liked the interview I had here, I liked Mr. Whitlow a lot, and the assistant principals.”
This is Miss. Keys first year teaching after previously being a journalist back in her home town. As such, she is having an adjustment from a small office to a school of over 900 students and staff.
“I like how big it is here, because I get to meet new students everyday, new people and new faces, which is very fun to me.”
Having only been here a couple weeks, Miss Keys already feels like she has found her niche and thinks that this is a great place to be.
“My favorite part about being here is the support of my co-workers, and I feel this is a space where I can grow into the best version of myself.”
Miss. Keys co-teaches English 9 and English 11. She also has a vocationally skills class, which is where she teaches job skills. She loves English and got her undergraduate degree in English/Writing at the University of Pittsburgh. She then went on to get her masters in English and Special Education.
“I get to teach English, I get to teach Special Ed,, and I get to teach vocationally skills, which is like a little bow on top,” said Miss Keys glowingly.
Starting out the new school year at Hidden Valley, we are excited to welcome Miss. Keys as a Titan, and wish her the best of luck.
