As the 2024–25 school year winds down, Hidden Valley athletics is closing out a strong spring season. Throughout the year, Titans sports teams have found success across the board.
Fall Sports Recap
The year kicked off in the fall with football, volleyball, golf and cross-country.
Despite finishing the season 0–10, the football team delivered exciting moments under the lights at Bogle Stadium. One standout play came on Homecoming night—a 51-yard trick pass to Chris Harless for a touchdown against Cave Spring.
“My favorite play of the season was when Chris got that catch against Cave Spring,” said senior Isaiah Cooper.
Volleyball claimed back-to-back Virginia state championships, with Caleigh Ponn earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors. The golf team also had a solid showing, finishing third in the region.
“Golf was a lot of fun this year. We kind of did below our team’s expectations, but otherwise it was another fun season,” said senior Greg Lanier.
Winter Sports Highlights
Winter brought continued momentum. Boys’ and girls’ basketball both advanced to regional tournaments, and the swim team saw multiple athletes qualify for states.
The boys’ basketball team went 12–13, reaching the regional semifinals before falling to Northside.
“We did very good, better than expected this season. I am very proud of how we did this year,” said junior Steele Torrence.
Girls’ basketball finished 12–12, beating William Byrd in the first round before a close three-point loss to Staunton River.
“We won more games than last year, and we made it to playoffs. It was a great season,” said senior Sofia Blaszak.
The swim team qualified 13 athletes for the state meet and impressed with strong performances. Wrestling, despite having no seniors, had an unexpectedly competitive season, led by a standout junior class.
“We did better than expected this season. Hidden Valley hasn’t done this well in years. We are super excited for the future,” said junior Gary Norris.
Spring Sports in Full Swing
Spring sports are always a busy time at Hidden Valley. Softball enters the season with high expectations.
“The team is pretty good this year. We are very confident in this season,” said junior Braelon Morrison.
The boys’ lacrosse team, still growing as a young program, is focused on development and resilience.
“We’ve got challenges, we’ve got problems—a lot of first-year players—but we are staying strong as a team and working through the adversity,” said senior Alex.
The girls’ lacrosse team is also aiming high with strong team chemistry.
“Our teamwork and holding each other accountable as teammates and friends is our biggest strength,” said senior Calli Anderson.
Boys’ and girls’ soccer continue to be crowd favorites, with both teams confident about deep postseason runs.
“Our defensive line is our biggest team strength. It will push us far this season,” said senior Audrey Pearson.
“I think we are going to go very far this year and make it to states,” added senior Trey Kemper.
Tennis, often an underrated sport, is also showing promise this year.
“Expectations this season are to go to the state tournament,” said senior Caleb Wang.
Track and field remains one of Hidden Valley’s most successful programs, with numerous top finishes in high-level meets.
“We have a lot of depth in the track team, and it helps us out a lot,” a team member said.

It has been a successful year across all sports for Hidden Valley. The school community is proud of its student-athletes and their many accomplishments.
