Ryan Wallding, a senior at Hidden Valley High School, has been a member of the Hidden Valley Titans baseball team throughout his high school career.
During his time on the team, Wallding has played several infield positions, including third base. This season, he’s stepped into the role of starting shortstop for the Titans.
In early December 2024, Wallding officially committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Ferrum College.
“Ferrum has a great baseball program and just got a new coach, and I feel like that kind of persuaded me to commit because I feel like I can learn a lot from them,” Wallding said.
Kevin Slough, Hidden Valley’s head baseball coach and a Roanoke County police officer, has coached Wallding throughout his time on the team. Slough has served as head coach for three years and was an assistant coach before former coach Boone stepped down.
“I am so proud of Ryan for committing to Ferrum College,” Slough said. “He has natural power as a hitter.”
Slough praised Wallding for his work ethic and growth as a player.
“Ryan is a great young man and a great presence to have on the team. He’s quiet but fits in well with his teammates,” Slough said. “As a player, he works hard and listens to feedback to improve his skills. He has natural instincts that will continue to grow at Ferrum.”
Wallding has dreamed of playing college baseball since middle school and is excited for the opportunity to fulfill that goal.
“I am looking forward to becoming a better athlete and having new challenges to overcome,” he said.
