Carlie Plunkett has been playing softball for the past nine years with a variety of travel teams and for the last three years with Hidden Valley Varsity. She is now committed to Emory & Henry College to continue her softball career. Softball has had a significant impact on Carlie’s life, teaching her important life lessons along the way.
“It made me realize how important it is to work as a team and to collaborate with other people,” she said. The sport has also helped her develop essential teamwork and leadership skills, which will be crucial in her future.
Carlie plays multiple positions, including first base, third base, and outfield. When asked about her favorite position, she replied, “My favorite position is outfield because I just started playing it, and I enjoy learning about new positions and becoming more of a utility player.” This versatility adds to her value as an athlete, allowing her to contribute in various roles on the field.
At Emory & Henry, Carlie plans to study exercise science, a field that examines how physical activity impacts the mind and body. The curriculum will focus on subjects such as physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition to help improve health and performance. She hopes to apply this knowledge to both her athletic career and her future professional endeavors.
Plunkett says, “My favorite memory during softball is being able to continue my career in college and achieve my dreams. It’s something I’ve worked for, and it feels like it’s all coming together.”
Her dedication to the sport, combined with her commitment to her education, positions Carlie for success both on and off the field at Emory & Henry. She looks forward to the next chapter of her journey.
