Spencer Thacker, a senior at Hidden Valley High School, has paved a path to success through his high school accomplishments. Thacker transferred to Hidden Valley halfway through his junior year, having previously attended Roanoke Valley Christian School and Faith Christian School.
“I transferred to Hidden Valley because I wanted to be given the opportunity to take my career in track further [and] prove myself,” Thacker said.
Since joining the track and cross-country teams, Thacker’s athletic success has been remarkable. He has broken and set multiple school records as a three-time All State athlete. These include accomplishments in 1600-meter outdoor and indoor events, as well as the 800-meter indoor race. Thacker also placed 10th in the 2024-2025 cross country state race.
“Breaking the records made me feel accomplished in what I now have,” Thacker said.
Thacker’s success has led to great opportunities including his offer of admission and a scholarship to run Division I track at Radford University starting in the fall of 2025. Thacker plans to run for all four years of college in hopes of continuing his track career after graduation. He also plans to become a teacher and track coach for high school students to motivate them as his coaches did for him.
“My coaches have motivated me throughout my entire athletic career to become a better runner and a better person,” Thacker stated
Thacker will graduate from Hidden Valley High School in May 2025. After high school, Thacker will compete in the Nike Outdoor National race and will continue to prepare for his college season. While he is leaving his high school years behind, he will also leave an impressive legacy.
“I hope to have left an impact on cross-country and track at Hidden Valley for a very long time to help motivate other runners to achieve their goals,” Thacker concluded.
