Some say Lavar Ball is a crazy dad but, others say he is one of the greatest dads we’ve seen in basketball media. His rise to fame was unexpected, from being an NFL practice squad player to raising three NBA prospects in Chino Hills, California, Lonzo, Liangelo, and Lamelo. He also is the owner of a sports apparel company, Big Baller Brand. His rise to fame was controversial but still an inspiring success story for fathers all around America.
Lonzo is the oldest of the brothers, having had an interesting journey in life so far. He started off his career being the star player for Chino Hills, leading the Huskies to a 35-0 record and a state championship. After high school, Lonzo was dominant in his college career at UCLA being a one and done college player, going straight to the draft after his freshman season with the Bruins. After having an up and down NBA career Lonzo finally seemed to find his place in Chicago after being with New Orleans and the Lakers, but unfortunately injury came back to him once again. He has since then recovered from a brutal knee injury and is ready to find a new home in the NBA.
Lamelo Ball was and is still one of the most exciting basketball players we have ever seen. He first hit the basketball media hard with a 92-point game in high school and is still putting up crazy highlights with the Charlotte Hornets. His flashy playstyle that is still prominent in the NBA, makes him a spectacle to watch for NBA fans. “I think Lamelo has the most potential out of all the ball brothers” (Malachi Greene 10). It will be exciting to see how Lamelo impacts the NBA for these upcoming years. “I think Lamelo will be good for the Hornets in the future.” Chase Gattuso (11) said.
Last but certainly not least, Liangelo Ball. Liangelo is the middle child and has had a rough basketball career, but his new debut song “Tweaker” has been a hit on social media in 2025. “I think his song is very good!” Chase Gattuso (11) said. This is what makes Liangelo so unique compared to the other brothers. Lonzo did have interest and was talented in rapping as well as Liangelo but ultimately decided to take his basketball career further than his music career. Liangelo on the other hand tried his hand at playing in the NBA but has still had no success, but his rap career has already been amazing, and he is even signing a record deal!
“Look at the Ball Brothers, they really made it. Lavar was such a good role model for them” Malachi Greene (10) said. This statement is true in my opinion. Lavar’s one of the most positive father-figures we have seen in recent sports media. Instead exploiting his talented sons, he pushed them to new heights and forced them to get out of their comfort zone.
