The UEFA Champions League is a tournament where football clubs all around Europe compete and fight for glory, the final this year will take place on May 31, 2025, in the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. During previous years this tournament has been played differently, and instead of the traditional group stages UEFA made a huge change being introduced to this big tournament. This year UEFA decided to switch things up and make a league table consisting of thirty-six teams (which differs from the usual group stage). The top 8 teams advance to the next round, while the next 16 make it to play-offs, and the remaining teams are eliminated. This league table seems more interesting and drags more attention to football fans.
The tournament final is scheduled to be held at the Allianz Arena. Football fan, Jose Diaz, shares his enthusiasm for the venue stating that “due to its great capacity of 75,024 fans and overall design” the arena was also chosen to be utilized to attract more fans into watching the final live, in person. Jose also shares, “I would have also chosen the Allianz Arena as [the] host for the final because it’s a stadium that holds history and many iconic and historic moments have taken place here.” The last time the Arena hosted this tournament was in 2012 when Chelsea became champions of Europe.
Jose shares, “based on performances this season I could definitely see Liverpool making [it] far, as well as Barcelona, these teams have both had their ups and downs this season, but I definitely see them going far.” Both Liverpool and Barcelona have had astonishing seasons and both clubs could face off in the final.
The UEFA could be switching the tournament to drag in more money and popularity. Jose believes they may have also made the change “to include more teams and draw more attention from journalists and fans.”
Jose also states, “I could see Lewandowski becoming this year’s top scorer for the Champions League, and if he keeps up with great performances, he might be able to break Ronaldo’s record of 17 goals in a single UCL season. Which would also be very hard to beat.” Lewandowski has had a decent start for the UCL so far but if he decides to drop an amazing performance, he might be on track to break Ronaldo’s record.
In conclusion, the 2025 UEFA Champions League could be filled with many surprises and will be an interesting one to watch this year. Many teams such as Sporting, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and more have all been fantastic and have lots of potential to make it far.
