The 2024 Ballon d’Or award was held in Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on October 28, 2024, with the winner being Rodri. After taking in consideration of stats of players such as, Haaland, Bellingham, Harry Kane, Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, and the biggest one, Vinicius Jr. This year’s Ballon d’or had a lot of controversy since many people believed Vini Jr. would win.
Despite having an amazing season winning awards like Champions League Player of the Tournament, LaLiga Player of the Month, LaLiga, UEFA Champions League, and Supercopa de Espana, and breaking records such as, youngest player to score in two Champions League finals and youngest player to score in two Champions League finals. Vini also had a great season scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists for both club and country, losing only 3/49 games this season.
While Rodri also had an excellent season with Man City, people still think the award should’ve been awarded to Vini Jr. Rodri had a great season with both his club and country, Spain. Winning the Premier League with Man City. Winning The UEFA Euro with Spain while also being awarded UEFA Euro POTT. Rodri played a total of 34 games, banging 8 goals and providing 9 assists.
While all this controversy does leave many football fans not taking the Ballon d’Or serious, I’ve decided to interview a football fan Victor Avila. Victor says, “I expected Rodri to win because of the hype he received all over social media during the season”. This means Rodri was expected to win by many fans for all the attention he got from the media. Victor also says, “I don’t fully agree with Rodri being the winner since there were many other players that could’ve won”. This statement means that although Rodri had a good season there were other players worthy enough to win this award. Victor also says, “this award has so much history and having one could implant your reputation in the sport and really define your career”. The Ballon d’Or is an award that should be taken more into consideration to who should be picked as the winner, which is why Victor thinks this way, along with many others. Victor continues saying, “all the stats and data show that Man City wasn’t a good team this season without Rodri, and the impact he made for the club can really impact his win on the Ballon d’Or.”
This comes to show that Man City won their major trophies with a lot of help of Rodri, and this could really bring him high in the Ballon d’Or ranking. Victor concludes saying, “I would say Rodri had an amazing season and overall, even though his stats weren’t as impressive, he really had a major impact on the pitch as a defensive-midfielder, which is a hard position and also crucial position for any team.” In conclusion there are many arguments on whether the 2024 Ballon d’Or was well deserved for Rodri or not, but Rodri had a major impact on his team for both Spain and Man City which is why Rodri was definitely worthy of the Ballon d’Or.
