On November 16th a boxing fight between Katie Taylor, an Irish world champion boxer, and Amada Serrano, a Puerto Rican professional boxer, took place in Arlington Texas. The fight was a predecessor match before the highly anticipated Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight. The match was very intense, leading to several injuries.
This match was a continuation of the fight at Madison Square Garden in 2022 where Serrano and Taylor had a fight that was considered by some to be one of the best fights ever to be held there. Brendan Rose 12 says, “Though I didn’t know much going into it, once you figured out the mean behind the fight being that it was a highly anticipated match between two of the best female boxers it was the most exciting fight of the night.” The fight was the first time two women headlined at the historic Madison Square Garden.
The long-awaited fight between Taylor and Serrano was very intense and had some shocking outcomes. The rematch was on of the most highly anticipated fight in the history of women’s boxing. Just like their first fight, it was a pound-for-pound fight exciting the crowd and the viewers at home. Though Serrano fought off Taylor very well it didn’t protect her from Taylors headbutts that lead to a terrible cut over her right eye. Though it was a very severe injury, Serrano pushed through and kept on fighting.
It was a tight battle until the very end, ultimately resulting in a victory for Taylor. Some fans disagree with the outcome. Garry Norris 11 says “Serrano was robbed. Serrano had a better overall score, a better overall hit percentage, and she had more hits landed and thrown”. The crowd and fans seemed to favor Serrano, but all 3 judges scored it 95-94 giving another title to Katie Taylor. The fight was a great display of practice and skill, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
