There will be forty-eight teams fighting for glory to win the World Cup. Starting on June 11, 2026, this World Cup will be hosted in North America (Canada, USA, Mexico). FIFA has decided to add more teams for the group stage. FIFA used to add only thirty-two teams and split them up into groups of four. Now, FIFA has decided to make this tournament more exciting by adding forty-eight teams. This means that there will be more groups, games, players, and spectators. This could be a strategy FIFA came up with by attracting more fans and bringing in more money. Whether or not this was on purpose, this will be very beneficial for both FIFA and the viewers.
Although FIFA’s new adjustments are full of excitement to many, Angel Arrizon, a football fan has a few things to say about these new adjustments and what they could bring to the 2026 World Cup. Angel says, “This World Cup will be very exciting because this event will attract more fans here in the U.S.” This means many people will be traveling all over the world to come see the World Cup. Angel also throws out his opinion on the World Cup being hosted in three different countries instead of one. “I think the idea of the World Cup being hosted in more countries makes this World Cup more functional, and ideal for its new adjustments,” Arrizon says, reflecting that this World Cup will be easier to control since there will be more stadiums for the sixteen new teams added.
Angel also stated that this World Cup will be the most spectated one yet, where he says, “There are a lot of football fans here in North, Central, and South America, so this will draw more attention to the World Cup, and it’ll be easier for other neighboring countries to travel to these three different countries.” Angel’s thoughts broach the idea that this event could bring in a lot of profit for FIFA. Angel also says, “This World Cup could possibly be the most entertaining one so far, since we’ve got more teams, new players, a variety of fans, and stadiums.” This means that the World Cup could possibly introduce us to new youngsters and new qualifying teams. Overall, this World Cup will be full of surprises and will definitely give the fans an emotion rollercoaster.
