Last weekend, on Friday, September 27th, Virginia Tech and U Miami battled their game at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. It all came down to one call that determined the whole game. On the game’s final play, Virginia Tech’s quarterback, Kyron Drones, sent a hail mary into the end zone with the hope that one of his teammates would catch it. With Virginia Tech receivers and Hurricane defenders all going up, only one call could be final.
Most of the Virginia Tech fans were upset with the call that determined the game of Tech vs. Miami. It was first ruled as a touchdown on the field; then, when it was looked over from a different camera angle, it was overruled as an incomplete pass. This made Tech fans furious because it looked like he touched down in the end zone, but the officials said otherwise, ending the game 38-36. Hutchins, a Virginia Tech fan, said, “I don’t think that call was fair at all; there wasn’t enough evidence for them to turn the call. “From the different camera angles that were shown, there was no evidence to overturn the call of a touchdown to an incomplete pass. This left fans furious; Hutchins stated, “A friend I know who was watching the game got upset with the call, punched a stud in the wall, and broke his hand.” This statement shows the pure anger with the refs and the final call they gave.
Overall, that one call determined the whole game, and they needed to be 100% sure about the call. A touchdown was overturned to an incomplete pass. A neutral fan between both teams, Steven, said, “That was not a fair call. Virginia Tech scored, and everyone saw. I’m not a fan, but that’s what happened.” Even though he is not a fan of either side, he still agrees that Virginia Tech touched down in the end zone and should’ve won that game.
