As the spring sports season starts up, the HVHS soccer teams are prepping for their games and upcoming competitive season. Both teams are highly motivated this year to improve by using new techniques to get better and stronger every day.
For the boys, a new season also brings about new coaches. Coach Ison and Coach Osman have received nothing but praise from player Diego Salinas (11). Salinas says, “they are coming in fulfilling big shoes” left by the previous Coach, Coach Large, who still occasionally works with the team.
The coaches are trying to bring about a new attitude and culture within the boy’s team, encouraging the boys to “not get pushed around,” according to Salinas. This change will also hopefully further incite positive change on the field, helping them encourage other teammates and themselves.
The girl’s team is also trying to bounce back from a slightly disappointing season last year, as they did not make states. Mainly, they are focusing on spring break practices which Destiny Xia (12) says, “kind of messed us up” in the previous year when scrapped these practices. Keeping the momentum of their training is going to be vital to the team’s success.
They also continue to work on a staple of their team, the comradery that is visible during their time on the playing field. Xia says, “We try to do our best to do as many things as we can outside of school, so we go get ice cream together and especially off season we work toward planning a few things to get together.”
This is only the beginning for these amazing teams! Come out to see if this early season prep is going to pay off at their games.
