Recently, the Titan’s indoor track team raced at Roanoke College in the regional meet. The team had been working hard in anticipation for this qualifying meet their whole season.
The meet started out poorly with the boys 4×800 team not placing, but it quickly improved as many Titans placed and beat their personal records throughout the meet. The meet was set up so the top three athletes in each event got to move on to the state level. This competition can cause disappointment; Coach Oakes stated that the worst part of the meet for her was “seeing athletes get their pr’s and still getting 4th place and not getting to move on to the state meet.”
The regions were quite well run in comparison to other meets the team attended. Sergio Rodriguez Hortua (11) shared that his only criticisms were, “that they could have done a better job at checking spikes and also giving every person in the relay a sticker so they could time each [relay] split.”
The meet ended with 6 students advancing to the state level competition. Worth Paisley (12) created a new school record for the boys shot put at 41’ 4,”and 20 of the teams’ athletes got new PR’s. The team celebrated with their after-regions tradition of a late lunch at Mac and Bob’s.
Overall, the Indoor track teams regionals were a success. Stay tuned to see what other accomplishments this amazing team has in store for their outdoor season starting on March 5, 2024.
