The annual Video Music Awards took place this year in Elmont, New York, on September 11th, 2024. With an amazing line up of performers and winners, this year’s host was Megan Thee Stallion.
Voting takes place every year, when the fans vote on their website for the artist, video, or song they think deserves to win the category that it is in. The categories are Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Push Performance of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Hip-Hop, Best R&B, Best K-Pop, Best Latin, Best Rock, Best Alternative, Best Afro-Beats, Video For Good, Song of the Summer, Best Group, Most Iconic Performance, Best Trending Video, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, Best Direction & Art Direction, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography, and Michael Jackson Video Vangaurd Award.
Aimee Leong (12) stated, “I agree with pretty much every winner. I think each award was deserved to who it was given to.”
This year’s performers included Eminem, Karol G, Lisa, Shawn Mendez, Sabrina Carpenter, Anitta, Katy Perry, Chappell Roan, Megan Thee Stallion, Benson Boone, Rauw Alejandro, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Camilla Cabello, GoRilla, and LL Cool J.
This year’s Video Music Awards made history, with Taylor Swift becoming the most awarded single person in VMA history, with 30 awards. She has broken the previous record of 26, set by Beyonce.
“It was honestly amazing watching her make history. I really enjoy her and her music, I think she deserved this record, she is a huge success,” said Aimee Leong (12). All in all, this year was a huge success, with many talented performers, winners and supportive fans. This event is held to acknowledge the great talent that is presented in the music industry, and every year it does just that.
