On September 23rd, 2024, the verdict for the murder and robbery of Southern Los Angeles rapper PnB Rock at Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles came out. The jury convicted Freddie Lee Trone and his son of murder.
PnB Rock and his girlfriend were dining at Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles on September 12th, 2022, when Freddie Lee Trone ordered his teenage son to rob PnB Rock. The morning of the murder, PnB Rock posted images of a new diamond-encrusted watch. This photo also revealed his location, which led Trone and his son to the restaurant. Trone’s son and PnB Rock started to argue, then Trone’s son opened fire, killing him.
Lana Qasem (11) says, “The fact that they can just walk into a restaurant and do that, scares me for going out in public.”
The family of PnB Rock is devastated and is trying to cope with the loss that they have unfortunately suffered. The only thing the family wants is justice. Other friends and colleagues have also expressed this grief and are trying to do their best by supporting his family.
Freddie Lee Trone was convicted of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and 2 counts of second-degree robbery. Tremont Jones was also convicted of second-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. However, he was not convicted of murder but was sentenced to 12 years in prison, along with Trone, who is serving 31 years to life in prison. Freddie Lee Trone’s 17 year old son was charged with first-degree murder and is undergoing treatment to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
“I agree with these charges, and I believe that when someone can plot an idea like this and go through with it, it deserves severe consequences. However, I don’t think it should have taken this long to come up with a verdict. I am shocked that a case that seems so easy to solve took so long to finish,” says Macy McQuade (11).
This case is a reminder of the fragility of life and the impact of violence on the music community. As the investigation is still not fully complete, PnB Rock’s fans and loved ones remail hopeful for justice and healing.
