Today I’m reviewing an oldie. 1960 brought us an incredible movie. “The Apartment” directed by Billy Wilder was such a pleasant and devastating surprise. Going into this I was expecting a comedy, judging purely off the cover, as I knew nothing about the plot. Turns out this was an incredibly complex and tragic story that Wilder is able to craft incredibly. Jack Lemon gives a standout performance, where he is able to switch from a happy go-lucky, comedic person, to an incredibly sad person who is all alone. This film handles loneliness and depression better than most modern day films. I was just so impressed with how forward thinking, and ahead of it’s time that was. I’m giving “The Apartment” a 4.5/5, or a 9.2/10.
