SZA revolutionized pop and R&B music with her December 2022 release, SOS. This album kickstarted her being one of the number top artists of our generation. Since this release, fans have been anticipating a deluxe version and SZA had been teasing it ever since! SOS Deluxe: Lana was officially released on December 20th, 2025. The common themes are heartache, feminine empowerment, and self-discovery. This album has a deep reflection on her adult years. She sings about finding herself and going through the difficulties of life and love. Some say this is her most vulnerable line of work. There was an obvious amount of effort put into this album, and she gave her fans exactly what we have all been waiting for.
The reissue of SOS has been in the works as long as SOS itself was. She only released two singles off Lana before the release. One of them being her popular single “Saturn,” and then one being released only hours prior to the album itself, “Drive.” She also teased lots of the songs including “Diamond Boy (DTM),” “BMF,” and more. SZA gave us a deluxe that featured just some of the scrap songs from SOS. SZA wrote and recorded over one hundred songs for SOS within five years. SZA said this album meant a lot to her because she put her healthier and more vulnerable songs on it. SZA fans say Lana is the emotional version of SOS. Either way, we love what SZA did with Lana and we love seeing this deeper side of her.
SOS Deluxe: Lana is not your normal deluxe. This deluxe has more songs than usual, with fifteen tracks and sitting at around 46 minutes long. These tracks include “No More Hiding,” “What Do I Do,” “30 for 30 (with Kendrick Lamar),” “Diamond Boy (DTM),” “BMF,” “Scorsese Baby Daddy,” “Love Me 4 Me,” “Chill Baby,” “My Turn,” “Crybaby,” “Kitchen,” “Get Behind Me (Interlude),” “Drive,” “Another Life,” and “Saturn.” This album is full of different sounds, themes, and emotions living throughout.
“Lana is SZA in moody late-night R&B electro-ballad mode, her sonic imagination and emotional ferocity as vivid as ever,” said the Rolling Stones. This shows a fair share of the public’s opinions on this album. The deluxe release also helped return SOS to number one on the Billboard 200 and now broke the record as the longest gap between weeks at number one in the history of the chart. This album was beautiful. SZA is my favorite artist, and she consistently proves that within her releases. My favorite track right now is “Another Life” but I honestly cannot pick it. I rate this album a 5/5 shields. I cannot wait to see what SZA has ahead of her in her career!
