To end the Halloween season, Marvel released Agatha All Along, a witchy continuation of Wanda Vision. The show follows Agatha Harkness, a formerly powerful witch, on her journey down the “witches’ road” which promises fulfilled wishes if the journey through it is completed.
Before the journey, Agatha, played by Katherine Hahn, meets an unknown boy after he releases her from a curse and asks her to take him on the road. To travel the road, Agatha comprises a unique coven of witches with different motives towards participating in the travel. This group includes, Lilia Calderu, a fortune teller, Mrs. Hart, an unsuspecting neighbor that has no witch connections, Jennifer Kale, who specializes in potions, and Alice Wu-Gulliver, the daughter of a famous witch.
In the following episodes, the audience learns more about the members of the coven while questioning the deeper aspects of this journey. The directors, Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg, and Gandja Monteiro, did an amazing job of tying together the episodes to slowly unveil all of surprises throughout the season. For the fans who enjoy breaking down episodes and creating theories, this show is a great time with all of the easter eggs that make it MCU content.
This was one of those shows that is so good that it is bittersweet to watch the last episode. It is a bit darker and vulgar than other Marvel content, but still evokes the same feelings through its shocking twists and familiar humor. The actors, particularly Hahn, had amazing performances that added a sense of nuance to their characters that I really enjoyed. Hopefully, the MCU will use Agatha All Along as foundation for the new age of superhero content. Be sure to binge the season now that the final episode released on October 30, 2024. Overall, I would rate this show 5/5 Shields.
