For months, snippets of songs and graphics for the cover of Future’s new album, Mixtape Pluto, have kept fans waiting in anticipation. This excitement came to a head on September 20th, when the artist finally released 17 brand new songs.
Many of his fans supported the album, highlighting their favorite songs and even creating new social media trends with the new music, but others argued that this album was not his best work. A few of these songs have gained attention, being shared and put over posts on platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok, but overall, the album did not receive near as much attention as previous albums such as We Don’t Trust You. While many fans have streamed the album, it is likely to be much less successful than his other releases.
One student, Ryan Freisleben (12), commented that “while I think that the new release is good, it kind of got hyped up because of the hype surrounding the last two albums and I do not think it was as good as his other albums.” However, certain songs do highlight the rapper’s musical talent, such as “LIL DEMON”, which the same student adds, “it has a quick start, a catchy flow, and Future’s vocals sound really good in it.” Despite some of these accomplishments, the album does not bear as much success as other works. As a result of its minimal publicity and success, it may be difficult for people trying to discover more of Future’s music to uncover this album, as his most popular songs show up first instead of these.
While the album was decent, it could have been much more successful with things such as features from other artists, more similarities to his other releases, and more publicity.
