In Benson Boone’s new indie/pop album titled Rollerblades and Fireworks, he expresses his feelings of heartbreak, letting go, and holding on. On April 5, 2024, Benson Boone’s anxiously anticipated album was released. While a couple of his songs topped the charts even prior to the full album release, the rest of his songs were impatiently awaited by his fans.
“Beautiful Things” remained number one on Billboard’s hot 100 for over three consecutive weeks, while “In the Stars” became popular as well. Since the release of his album more songs have reached his audience, and his popularity is beginning to grow.
While “Beautiful Things” and “In the Stars” are about holding on, others such as “Cry” or “Ghost Town” are about letting go. In general, his music expresses heartbreak, in the form of holding on to something that no longer exists, or leaving for the best of the relationship. Another fan favorite, “Slow it down,” is one of his more hopeful songs, conveying an idea of fixing the relationship versus giving it up or forcing it.
Some fans questioned the name of Boone’s album, as the name seems a somewhat random choice. When asked, Boone explained the lyric “fireworks tied to a rollerblade” from a song on the track called “Hello Love.” He told interviewers that he felt the lyric stuck out, but Boone also said that he felt his career and life had “taken off like a firework tied to a rollerblade.”
As a whole, Benson Boone’s career and fanbase continues to grow while several of the songs on his new album are a hit, and he hopes to create many more.
