Bob Marley: One Love was released on February 14, 2024, and follows the compelling story of Marley’s life and struggles. This biopic takes place over the course of 3 years in two different cities. Throughout the movie, the gripping story of Marley’s life in unveiled.
For those who only know Marley for his catchy tunes, this movie provides a deeper dive into his life. Marley was raised in Kingston, Jamaica by his mother, Cedella Booker, after his father fled. He faced many forms of obstacles, such as violence and discrimination, but used his music to overcome them.
Bob Marley: One Love begins in 1976 as Jamaica is in the middle of political confliction that has caused violence and division. After him and his band face a shooting invasion at his home, Marley flees to London. London acts as an infirmary for Marley and his band to recover both mentally and musically. Bob Marley and the Wailers come back stronger than ever and unite the world with music.
Many speculators believe that Reinaldo Marcus Green didn’t do this inspiring story justice. The highlight of this movie was simply the vibes. Due to the fact that this is Marley’s story’s first time on the big screen, the bar was raised high, and critics believe this movie didn’t quite reach it. The scripting of this movie comes across as harsh and sloppy. Movie watchers also believe the writing downplayed major details in Marley’s life story. For example, the ending, where he discovered his cancer, was extremely rushed.
This motion picture stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley. Both actors did an applaudable job to portray the Marley’s accurately, but many believe there was a lack of insight on their true characters.
In my opinion, this movie had potential to be great, but several issues dampen the overall experience. I would give this movie 3 out of 5 shields. Despite the many hiccups, this movie successfully immersed the watcher into a world of Reggae and connected the entire theatre with music.
