How wild was Olivia Wilde’s thriller “Don’t Worry Darling?”

Olivia Wilde’s thriller, starring popstar Harry Styles, “Don’t Worry Darling” released on September 23, 2022. It immediately went to the top of the box office the weekend of its release.

The movie opens to a 1950’s small patriarchal community that appears almost utopic. The story follows the two leading characters Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) and her husband Jack Chambers (Harry Styles) through their routine lives among their small community devoted to the “Victory Project.”

Every day the men of the community must attend work for the purpose of this secretive project, while the women remain in the comfort of their homes tending to the duties of a housewife. The wives aren’t allowed any information regarding the project’s purpose or reasoning, except it is “a push forward” and a “push in progressive materials.”

One female in the community, Margaret, is rumored to be “psychologically ill,” having sudden outbursts stating that they shouldn’t be there, and everyone should leave. While on a trolley, Alice swears to have seen a plane crash beyond the boundaries of the secluded community and after failing to locate the crash, she reaches a single structure that when placing her hands on the glass framing is thrown into pieces and fragments of her memory.

Later, Alice witnesses Margaret standing on her roof, knife in hand, slitting her own throat. Following this encounter, Alice’s behavior shifts as she begins to hallucinate and become unintentionally suicidal while performing basic or minimal tasks. Alice and Jack both become untrusting and skeptical of each other as Alice continues to search for the truth about the Victory Project’s purpose.

Overall, the movie included incredible acting delivered from Florence Pugh, Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde herself. It takes you down a road filled with twists at every corner leaving you with unforeseeable events.
